Technical and Historical Notes:
Background History
Perhaps one of the greatest technological achievements of HALO Industries Research and Development, the EVN-AGN04 Gundam Archangel is the latest reincarnation of the first Nazarene. Because of the success of its predecessors, eight other Nazarene suits have been built, incorporating the same technologies trademark to this type of mobile weapon.

Fabrication Steps
Overall fabrication time: Six months Seeing problems during early tests with a semi-monocoque frame, HALO technicians developed a new lightweight yet incredibly strong frame system called the "RL2S," or Reinforced Lightweight Skeletal System. This, combined with magentic-coated joints (allowing for near-zero friction) has given the suit the ability to withstand stresses that would snap the frame of a normal Gundam or mobile suit in half. On top of the electronics interwoven into the frame, several layers of macromolecular synthetic fibres were placed that serve as excellent anti-EMP shielding, providing extra frame strength as well as an interface node through which the HALO System computer can check the overall status of exterior armor plates. As far as armor is concerned, super strong Gundanium Rho from Anaheim Industries was used, incorporating a technology called "nanopaste"-a special fluid closely resembling the look of blood that can repair damaged areas of the armor. In essence, the Archangel can "heal," and prevent most minor damages from ruining its superb abilities in combat. Painted on top of this armor is sensor absorbent paint, specifically made to reduce the suit's overall signature on sensor scans (ranging from thermal imaging, Minovsky particle detection, to radar and even sonar).

Concerning the Archangel's trademark standard propulsion system, two vernian wings (specifically magnetic vernian ion boosters that expel Minovsky ions out from bladed edges, or wings. The Minovsky ions travel down the edges until they hit at the end, blasting off as mega particles.) Added with normal boosters, this gives Archangel and its sister Nazarenes unprecedented traveling ability. An advantage of this wing design over true vernian boosters is its ability to function as simple radiators once they stop burning. In space, this allows the Archangel to cool down rather quickly without leaving a significant heat trail, so as long as it doesn't change its trajectory it can be far stealthier than other high speed mobile suits. At the same time, with the help of the Solaris IMAP, it is possible to remove the vernian wings and replace them with Minovsky drive thrusters for other mission types. This greatly adds to the Archangel's overall adaptability to any combat situation.

The Archangel's thirteen sensor arrays (allowing for a combined scanning range of 13800 meters) are specially built to be able to scan in every mode possible-from night vision, thermal imaging, to Minovsky detection and regular camera vision. This also adds on to the suit's adaptability. Soon after the system was installed, the suit was completed and ready for hardware/software installation.

Systems Hardware
In order to ensure the suit's perfection, the newest HALO processing unit (version 5) was installed as the piloting system. Known to be one of the most dangerous piloting units ever conceived-it is in essence an adapted and amplified psychommu system that allows only certain Newtypes to master it. If anyone that did not fit the computer’s specifications tried to access, the system has the capability of sending so much information through that person's mind that they could go insane and cause permanent brain damage. There was one such incident during early Angel prototype test trials with Brian Oshiro, who sustained a significant amount of brain damage simply because he did not fit HALO's specifications.

Weapon Systems
HI-ECX4 Echo Cannon "Demon Crusher": Significantly sized down compared to its predecessors (now only a bit larger and heavier than a Flash cannon), and considered to be one of Archangel's primary armaments, it is a compact ultra-powered buster rifle that utilizes neutral Minovsky energy in a similar process and manner used by a mega particle cannon. When the energy contained within the high-capacity e-canister is pumped into the weapon's chamber and energy condenser, particle acceleration occurs and both positive and negative Minovsky particles are compressed, resulting in mega particles. The particles are further focused and concentrated into a neutrally charged devastating energy beam. This beam can be further amplified or decreased, depending on the situation, to result in either one large discharge or many small shots. Because of the high amount of static built up during this process, as the beam fires it is surrounded by an electromagnetic halo-powerful enough to disable unprotected electronic equipment within a fifty meter radius of the beam itself. One unique concept behind the Echo is the fact that it can store two full charges worth of mega particles in its capacitor system and at the same time hold one charge in the chamber, and subsequently fire all three charges simultaneously. Granted, doing so puts great stress upon the weapon itself, and tends to deplete energy in approximately two shots, it gives the pilot the ability to fire a near-continuous beam of energy at his opponent-closely resembling a flamethrower. Per hi-cap e-canister, one can expect to fire approximately twenty low, twelve moderate, or two fully charged beams. The cannon can hold three e-canisters, and can store two full charges in its expanded capacitor. If needed, the pilot can connect the weapon to an external generator, replace any used canisters with fresh ones using an e-canister refill rack attached via Solaris IMAP, or in a last ditch effort connect directly to the Gundam's reactor-in order to fire a near unstoppable continuous blast of energy.

"Mokushiroku" laser-edged heat katana: Another primary armament used by the Archangel, the Mokushiroku is essentially a heat sword with a laser assisted cutting edge. Using a similar technology found in both beam sabers and an anti-ship sword, neutral Minovsky particles are concentrated into a thin beam along the weapon's edge to give the weapon superior cutting power. Previous models of this weapon were extremely heavy and did not function well in fast combat, until a much more slender and katana-like blade was chosen. The hilt is extended to give the weapon more reach than a normal heat sword.

"Tensoujin" laser-edged heat swords: Considered secondary armaments for the suit, these weapons utilize the same concept behind the Mokushiroku-instead of in a twin-blade and more compact design. The bottom of the dull edges of the blades are serrated, allowing for the ability to tear through an opponent's armor from both sides.

MI-121 "Flash" Rail Cannons: Essentially compact railguns, these high-energy weapons use electromagnetic force to propel a projectile at extremely high velocities. These projectiles in themselves are capable of piercing most light-medium armor. Because the weapons burn no propellant, it gives an insignificant heat signature causing the system in itself to be very stealthy. If more power is needed, the Archangel can connect to the weapon via access points on its fingers, and divert unused reactor power to the cannon.

MI-092 "Riot" Electronic Resonance Cannon: Meant specifically for close quarters combat, the Riot utilizes electrostatic generators to create a large electric charge that can be fired at an enemy suit. The resulting bolt of electricity can disable most electronics in a conventional mobile weapon. Simply because the electricity ignores the outer armor of a suit and destroys the interior, it is generally a good anti-armor weapon. One downfall, however, is the fact that the range on this weapon is not too great beyond a close quarters battle.

HI-MC2D "Nightmare" special purpose anti-armor machine cannons: Adding to Archangel's adaptability once again, these machine cannons can unleash neutral Minovsky bursts at a high rate of fire. Because of the energy use needed, a small external generator is usually carried by the Archangel (unless utilizing two e-canisters per cannon), the Nightmare is capable of laying down a wall of neutral Minovsky beams against an opponent.

Fin funnels: Remote controlled laser cannons, Archangel's ten funnels can deploy and surround a target within seconds, blasting it with an immense amount of firepower from many directions.

Because of the modular nature of the Solaris IMAP system, actual loadout may vary depending on mission. As is standard for the Nazarene suit, two backup 75mm energy CIWS batteries (two cannons per battery, maximum 4500 shot per minute firing rate) are mounted in the head and on the shoulders. When not in use, Archangel's weapons can either be attached to the four hardpoints on its back, or exchanged on a support ship when changing Solaris assault packs. The Solaris in itself is a way in which the Archangel can switch out its standard wings with Minovsky drive thrusters, ammo carriers, etc.-it essentially enables the suit to be modular and adapt to almost any combat situation loadout.

Unit Completion and Launch
After completion of the new and improved Archangel Gundam, and after extensive capability tests were performed to ensure the unit was more than combat worthy, it was ready for its first deployment in February of AC 233. Currently it is deployed under the Nocturne Alliance Marines, NASOCOM, RED CELL division.
