Here are some helpful tips to remember when you begin filling out the applications:
- Take your time on these apps. Tweak your character's origin so that it
sounds interesting to read. The origin is the single biggest determining
factor of whether you are accepted or not when under evaluation.
- Remember to include some details from the storyline into your character's
story. For example, weave in some information about how your character joined
his organization, how he/she chose a side, how he/she was affected by a
major event in the storyline, etc. If your character just appeared out of
nowhere, then how would they be able to relate to the conflicts at hand?
They are, after all, the ones who are going to be living in the world of
the Darkness Echo, so why not add a sentence or two that tells of the impact
of the storyline upon them?
- I am only human, and occasionally have limited time to get multiple things
done. So if it takes me a little while to post your applications it is because
I am probably really busy with something else. So please don't get cranky.
As for the actual admissions process, it is handled by my assistant webmaster,
Enoch. If you have a problem seeing whether or not you were accepted, contact
him, not me.
- BEFORE you fill anything out, make sure that you are going to participate
in this RPG somewhat regularly (somewhat meaning a minimum of 1-2 posts
per week). We have had a history of inactive players, who join and then
do nothing, so we are going to have to tighten down on submissions. As a
warning, we have a tendency to use characters that have gone inactive without
explanation as target practice, or trial dummies (meaning we throw them
in the middle of the fray just to get killed, testing the capabilities of
the enemy). So if you at all have to go inactive during your career here,
please be sure to give an explanation if you want to keep your character
alive for you to use when you return. It will save everyone, both the staff
and you, from a major headache.
- Unless your character does not have a mobile suit, you must fill out both
applications.
- AND PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, BE ORIGINAL! There have been so many
apps that just run together because the characters they depict either all
wear the same color (mostly black), have the same pessimistic outlook on
life, and all want to gain revenge. Plus the fact that a majority of applicants
pick "Rogue Soldier" when they don't even know what it implies... Let me
just give you the skinny on this. Being a rogue means A; you will be TOTALLY
on your own, untrusted since you are rogue, B; you have to scrape pennies
together to make even the simplest repairs to your mobile suit (conversely
to when in an organization, where the org pays for your expenses without
any hassle), and C; you will always be confused if you don't know what the
hell you are doing. Don't get me wrong, if you can hack it as a rogue then
be my guest. But when it comes to be wartime, I suggest you pick a side
to fight on before you are dragged in without the freedom to choose...
- I know that I'm probably repeating myself here, but if your app is unique
and stands out from others, chances are you will be accepted.
